I decided, at an early age, that I loved to help people and had an undying love for sports. This led me to the conclusion that sports medicine is the perfect fit for me.
My education is the most important thing to me. I believe that when one is a student athlete, academics come first. I have worked extremely hard to make good grades. I also participated in the Duke TIP program as a seventh grader. I plan to maintain my good grades by taking advanced classes, throughout my high school and college career. I choose to focus on my grades because I know that one day the ball will stop bouncing for me.
When I started playing basketball I was a shy six year old girl. I was too afraid to go out on the court and participate in practice. My coach, however, saw potential in me and made a deal with me. He told me that he would polish his fingernails pink, if i would participate in practice. Needless to say I fell in love with the game, and never looked back.
Basketball has taught me so much about life, love, and friendships. I have been able to enhance my work ethic, determination, and persistence which are the characteristics that I am known by. Through my experiences that I have learned that basketball, as well as life, takes more than talent alone. You must set goals, reach them, and continue improving.
During my eighth grade year I led my team to the county championship game, for the first time in school history. This was when I knew that my dream of playing basketball in college was achievable. I believe that with hard work, practice, and dedication I will be able to make an immediate impact on your program.
