Dear Coach,
My name is Mia Jay Flores and I am a twelfth grade student athlete who attends Edcouch-Elsa High School. I will be joining the graduating class of 2022 and I am writing to you because of my interest in playing basketball at the next level. I strongly believe that I possess the necessary tools to play collegiately.
I am a 4-year varsity letterman in basketball/softball and a 2-year varsity letterman in volleyball. I’ve been blessed to play before a community that heavily supports all their student-athletes; therefore, I have committed myself as a utility player in each of the sports I have participated in. The top 2 greatest accomplishments received my junior year of high school include being named to the: 1.) 32-5A First Team All-District Selection; and the, 2.First Team All-Valley Selection by the Rio Grande Valley Basketball Coaches Association. Another recognition I received was making the 32-5A All-Academic Team. During the onset of my senior year, I was also able to clinch 1,000 high school career points.
Off the court, I have been able to maintain a favorable grade point average of 96.3571/100 and scored a 1000 on the SAT Exam. I am scheduled to take the ACT Exam on February 12, 2022 and retake the SAT Exam on March 12, 2022. As a student I have steadily ranked in the top 10-15% of my class. I look forward to pursuing my studies in Criminal Justice and acquiring a career in a Crime Scene Investigation Division. Other commitments I hold dear to my heart include my faith (Phil 4:13), my membership to the Edcouch Elsa Chapter of the National Honor Society, and my ten years of service to the Special Olympic Games, which includes, my participation in our very first Special Olympic Unified Bowling/Track Teams for Edcouch-Elsa, where we qualified in track for the State Games in San Antonio, Texas.
I must be straightforward in disclosing that, I was injured during a tournament basketball game, while guarding an opponent of a substantial size. Hearing the news of a torn ACL was a tough bullet to bite; however, this minor bump in my road does not define me. Please know that I have been fully committed to my rehabilitation and have been following all doctor/therapist’s orders 100%. I am on track with my recovery and expected to hit the court harder on March 7, 2022.
This being said, I would genuinely like to thank you for your time and consideration. Please know that I am ready to put in the work needed to proudly represent your program. I would love to visit your campus and talk about the possibility of becoming a apart of your program in the upcoming FY 2022/23 year. Please do not hesitate to reach out regarding any action or inquiry needed on my end to assist in your decision. Below for your reference is a link to my highlight video and current head coach contact information. I eagerly await to hear from you regarding any possibilities.
Sincerely,
Mia Jay Flores, Senior 2022|PG/SG|5’6”
