My name is Avery Smith and I strive to be a college basketball player. I was initially introduced to basketball because I was an active first grader. What once began as an exciting activity grew to become my pride and joy. I love the sport, and wish to further my basketball and academic career at the next level. I am a point and shooting guard with deadly range. I see the floor well, and think to pass before dribble. I can shoot three’s, but like to think that my pull-up jumper is more of my specialty. I am a team player. As a varsity basketball player, leadership is very important in the program. Therefore, I lead by example and bring a positive attitude because I believe that teammates should build each other up and not tear one another down. However, I am not afraid to confront someone if they do not play with maximum effort. I am fully aware that playing college basketball requires hard work and dedication, but I am willing to prove my worth at the next level.
I plan to study business and marketing in college, and I am in the top ten percent of my class. In college, I hope to uphold the competitive drive in both my academics and basketball. This past year I selected Academic All- District for the 6A Region 3 District 20 as well as receiving 2nd Team All-District in the 6A Region 3 District 20 Girls basketball. Next year, I will work hard to achieve 1st Team All-District. Being able to excel on the court and in the classroom is extremely important to me.
Even though basketball and grades are important to me, I also have a passion for art. Due to my love for designing, I plan to go into Business Marketing. Outside of basketball, I am a member of Beta Club and am involved with many church functions. Both Beta Club and church have provided me with opportunities to give back to the community through volunteer work, and have taught me the importance of fellowship. They also have shown me the benefits of hard work. Ultimately, I wish to share my talents and passion with the college that is right for me, and I am ecstatic to take my basketball and academic career to the next level.
