My name is Sumaya Ahmed,
I am currently a junior/rising senior. I go to Annandale High School in Virginia and I have been playing in at Annandale my whole life. The game of basketball is really important to me because it is a way for me to show how much fun playing the game is. In addition, being a Muslim black girl passionate about the sport shows basketball doesn't discriminate religion or race. I want to show that to the world especially girls because not many Muslim girls play basketball and I want to show them they you can fit in and still be a really good basketball player.
My goals and aspirations for college is to be a really good basketball player on offense and defensively because if you have good defensive then the offense will flow smoothly. I would love to play Division 1 basketball especially in the SEC because that division has a lot of talent and has some really good potential WNBA player as well as any other conference. I want to go to a school that wants me as a basketball player and for who I am as a person. Being Muslim is a big part of who I am and I would like for a school to take a chance on me because you will get the best player out of me no matter the circumstance.
One big thing that make me a really good candidate is I communicate on defensive and I make sure that my presence is known. Communication is key when you're on the floor because you want to make sure you and your teammates are on the same page. I love communicating because it shows that you never give up on any play. Offensively I can shoot the ball, set screens for other players, and make clutch free throws when needed.
My character is on the court is all about business, meaning we need to handle our business on the court to get the win. I feel like if you don't have that mindset of not handling your business, then your presence is not needed. Off the court I am a chill and funny person because you can hangout with your teammates not basketball related and that is fun. My academics are really good and I put that first because if you don't have good academics then you will not succeed and not play in the games because your not doing well in the academics. My GPA is a 3.7 and I've improved academically each year.
Something that makes me different from other recruits is my heart because I have a lot of passion for the game and when I'm not playing basketball I watch a lot of film and basketball games to take bits and pieces from everybody's game. When I'm on my phone I literally watch basketball, basketball is literally what I do all day.
I really hope a school really gives me a chance and do something special not only for me but for my family. Being Muslim can open doors for a lot of people because most Muslim girls don't really play basketball and I hope I can change that.
