Personal Statement

Who is Bridee Burks - I am a four-sport athlete, who enjoys choir, forensics, and being involved with my church.  I am a country girl from rural Wisconsin who has been raised understanding that you get out of life what you put in!   Continuing my education while playing college basketball has been my goal since middle school.    I am a 2x State Champion Cross Country runner and State Track Champion in the 4x200, 3rd in the 4x800 and 5th in the 4x400, a State Champion Roper, and past Reserve National Champion Rodeo athlete.   Basketball, however, is my passion.

If I were to define my ideal college experience it would be to attend a school that offers a family atmosphere, a top quality communications degree program,  a competitive and challenging basketball program with a coach that believes in coaching and developing athletes in the physical as well as mental aspects of the game!

A few qualities that make me a good candidate for college athletics is my work ethic, dedication to academics, and dependability.  Besides, managing my sports, academic, extracurricular activities,  volunteering schedule,  and farm work, I also work as a waitress.  It is important to me to challenge myself, balance a busy schedule, and contribute to family and community.  My parents and grandparents have taught me the value of hard work and I am thankful they have made me work for what I have.  If I fail it is on me and it is up to me to do better next time.  In rodeo and cross country, we compete in rain, snow, hail, and sometimes sunshine (here in Wisconsin).   These conditions certainly present a challenge, both physically and mentally.  I feel that these challenges make me a better basketball player.  Clearing my mind to perform and blocking out the conditions or adversity around me is a quality that a college athlete certainly needs.

Thank you for your time and I hope this inspires you to contact me if you'd like to learn more about me as a possible addition to your program.
