Basketball has been an important part of my life since fourth grade. Over the years I have loved learning all aspects of the game. From the different positions, strategy, relationship building and mental toughness. As I plan for college, I know I want basketball to continue to be a part of my educational journey. I look forward to learning and growing more as a player!
Growth doesn’t happen without feedback and the acceptance of critical criticism. I strive to overcome obstacles and do so with a positive attitude. I am not afraid to take on extra work in efforts to improve and grow as a player. I am a strong defender, being involved in cross country for years has enhanced my endurance. I am left handed which I also believe can be an advantage to my game.
There hasn’t been much down time during my high school career. I have participated in a variety of sports. I was first team all conference for tennis my sophomore year. I have played on the varsity basketball team my sophomore and junior year. Played varsity from freshman to the current year on the softball team. I also had the pleasure of playing one round of varsity golf with my twin sister because her partner had emergency surgery and they were short a player for a scramble.
My studies are equally if not more important to me than sports. I am just as dedicated to my classes as I am on the court. I am on the NHS and German NHS. I believe volunteering and community service are essential in creating a thriving society. I am involved in WEACT which is dedicated to local and global service projects. We actively participate in various campaigns throughout the year to help create positive change in our community and world. This past year, I volunteered in a kindergarten classroom at one of our elementary schools. I enjoy the energy of the little children as well as their enthusiasm to learn. Every summer I work at our school’s basketball and softball development camps and have enjoyed seeing some of the younger students develop over the years.
Being a part of a team is important to me. Every step in my educational journey plays an important role in my future successes. The skills I will learn on the court, in practice, in the classroom and campus living will enhance my employability skills from communication, teamwork and problem solving to name a few. I am excited to see where my path takes me!
