I am a Junior (2025) at Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Southern California, and in 2022 I changed my focus from Indoor Club Volleyball (OH position) to Beach Volleyball and have been working full time training for the beach since then, with the exception of playing during the indoor High School season. However, I have recently chosen to leave the high school indoor program to devote all of my focus to my beach training. I pride myself on being a hard worker and a great teammate with tons of energy and enthusiasm whether I am on the court or cheering from the sidelines.
I am currently practicing with, and playing for Wave Beach Volleyball, located in Del Mar, California and I travel between 1 and 1.5 hours from school to practice so I can receive what I believe is the best possible coaching in a positive and challenging environment.
I am enrolled in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program and maintained an over all GPA of at least 4.2 through my high school career to date. I am a member of the California Scholarship Federation, have been on the Honor Roll every semester, and have been honored with Academic Achievement awards after each of my indoor volleyball high school seasons. I have always been very serious about my education and prior to my freshman year, I received the President’s Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence, which is presented to students who have maintained a GPA of over 3.8 throughout their 6th, 7th, and 8th grade years. I aspire to pursue an education in the medical field while continuing my athletic career in college.
Before I fell in love with volleyball, I played softball in both the pitcher and shortstop positions. In the summer I have volunteered for the Orange County Junior Lifeguards (OCJGs) where for the last 4 years I have taught children ages 8-15 valuable ocean survival and life-saving skills. I also love to surf and try to get in the water every chance I get.
My family has always been a very important part of my athletic experience. My Dad was a professional surfer and in high school he competed on the surf team, soccer team and volleyball team. Although he is a natural athlete, he has always stressed the importance of working hard and putting in time on my own if I want to excel. My Mom started playing volleyball in the 8th grade and started on the Junior Varsity team in high school. She let a brief period of peer pressure affect her focus, which resulted in her leaving volleyball. She has often spoken to me about her regret that she did not follow through with the sport she loved so much, and that she let that brief period of teenage confusion affect the rest of her life. My Mom went on to graduate from U.C. Berkeley and then to obtain a Masters Degree in Engineering from Colorado School of Mines, so she has been a great influence over my education and plans for college.
As far as my continued education goes, I pride myself on being a good student and maintaining focus and good grades in school. I put my education and my athletic career above all else while still maintaining a very healthy social life. After years of balancing my social life with education and athletics, I feel that I have learned how to responsibly manage my time, which is a life skill that I know will help me throughout my high school, college, and adult careers.
