I was so eager to try out for the 7th grade volleyball team as I was finally old enough to play organized volleyball since club and school teams in my area didn't start until that age. I had grown up watching my mom playing doubles volleyball on the beach. It was finally my turn. But, I didn't make the team. While this devastated me, it also motivated me. That same year, I made a club team that ended up being the second best team in the GEVA region earning a bid to Nationals. And months later I tried out for the Varsity Volleyball team as an eighth grader and made the team and was a starter. I understand failure. I know work ethic involved in overcoming obstacles. Not only have I developed those skills, I found my voice through volleyball. I was the shy and awkward teen afraid to speak publicly. I am now a leader on the court. My teammates and coaches through the last four years playing school and club volleyball have described me as selfless, the glue of the team, the person who always knows how to motivate the team, and keep the team calm when necessary. Volleyball also has been my refuge since my dad suddenly passed away a few months ago. Being a part of a team has taught me resilience, perseverance, and valuing bettering myself and others around me. I have mastered being mentally tough. Despite having my world collapse when he passed, I managed to continue playing school volleyball, club volleyball, beach volleyball, and club soccer while maintaining a 100.88 GPA in all honors and AP classes. I have extremely high academic goals. I am the most determined person and I plan on pursuing a career in science and research. I plan on researching diabetes which was the cause of my father's death in hopes of making a positive impact in the medical community. I have very high expectations for myself and I am always pushing myself to be the hardest worker and give 110% whether on the court or in the classroom. I am interested in a wide range of colleges, however my main focus is a strong academic institution. I am looking for a college that is the right fit for me both academically and athletically. I hope for a college experience in which I can continue to grow as a player, teammate, student, and also have fun!
