My name is Abbey Meloche and I am a competitive diver. I began my diving career with the Thunder Bay Diving Club (TBDC) 7 short years ago and I fell in love. Diving has taught me so much about myself and my abilities. I have learned how to push through the toughest of times and rise above all the challenges that come with being a competitive athlete. I am a very hard worker and I dedicate myself to everything that I do. If I truly want something I will push my self to the limits and work every day to get there. No goal is too hard if you are willing to put in the work that it takes to reach it. My most important accomplishments have been attending nationals in 2016, 2017 as well as 2018. I am also very proud of being ranked in the top 10 in Canada at the 2018 national championships. This year has had its ups and down and I am ready to take a step back, increase my strength and bring everything that I've got for the 2019-2020 season, my final year as a junior diver.
When it comes to choosing a school I have a very broad spectrum. I am mainly looking at the west coast, east coast or southern areas (Florida, Texas, California, etc.) but, I am very open to going anywhere. All that truly matters to me in a school is that I get to do the sport that I love while receiving a great education. At the moment my preferred field of study is in nutrition and dietitian. This would require a bachelors degree in biochem which is something that I am very interested in. My major may change through the course of my final high school year but nutrition is something that I am very passionate about.
My athletic goals for this coming season are to increase my DD on all boards while also improving the quality of my dives. Some more goals I am going to set for this coming season are to make Nationals and attend the Canada Summer Games. Although these goals will take work I am willing to put in everything that it takes to reach them. I am excited to see what this year brings and spend all the time I have left with my amazing team. We cheer each other on and encourage each other to improve. We are truly a family and I am very grateful for all of their support. To end off my personal statement I am going to share a quote that keeps me motivated when things start to get tough "The road to athletic greatness is not marked by perfection, but by the ability to constantly overcome adversity and failure." - Nike. This perfectly represents the type of athlete that I am and I am excited to see what continuing my diving career will bring.
