As a college athlete I want to continue to springboard diving and expand my knowledge of the sport to platform diving. As well as being an college athlete I would like to purse a degree in psychology so that I can work in the field of sports psychology with high level athletes. Being an athlete and pursuing this degree go hand in hand in achieving my future goals.
As an athlete I work hard, actively make goals and revisit them. I am relentless in my pursuit to perfect my dives and to be the best that I can. I also realize that as a team member I am only one part of the equation and that my own success and failure effect the team. I have an excellent work ethic and value the feedback from my coaches and mentors that are there to help me be the best version of myself.
I have competed in high school and club diving and also at the national level as a tetrathlete and pentathlete. In 2018 I participated in an international tetrathlon competition where I finished 8th out of the five countries that participated. This experience helped me to learn how to focus my energy when I was nervous, to stay calm under pressure, and to perform my absolute best. This has helped me tremendously on the diving board and in the classroom. This has also been the inspiration for my future profession goals.
In my most recent high school state meet I fell on the board due to a rapid flash during my first dive. After hitting the board, cutting my foot and straining my quad I was able to get back on the board and finish my 11 dive list. I had to have the courage to get back on the board and keep going. Even though I was behind, I fought my way through pain and nerves to dive my absolute best. I knew that my team was also counting on my points to help position us for the podium.
As a student I work hard, study and actively pursue help when I need it. I have participated in the AVID program in my high school for the past three years. During this time I have been taught how to take notes, study, and seek help when I am struggling. I have also learned valuable skills like organizing and goal setting. School does not come easily, and I tackle my academics with the same tenacity I pursue athletics.
