My name is Ava Soh, and I am a senior in the class of 2025 with a fervent dream to play college golf. Since I started golf during the outbreak of COVID-19, my passion for golf has grown exponentially over the short span of 2 and a half years. My journey from the very beginning, from starting to compete in 9 hole tournaments, to scoring in the 70s in 18 hole tournaments, reflects my determination to improve and excel on the course in such a short time. Despite the obstacles I have faced, including the absence of a golf team at my high school and the lack of guidance from a high school golf coach, I have been unwavering in my dedication to weekly practicing outside of my rigorous academics as well as registering for my own tournaments in SCPGA. Although my journey in golf may have begun later than most, my insatiable drive has allowed me to make remarkable progress, and my average handicap currently is 6 strokes (average score is 78). What sets me apart is my innate ability to quickly absorb and apply knowledge, making me a fast learner with a large potential for growth, which I believe has been and will be instrumental in my growth as a golfer.
In addition to my golf aspirations, I have maintained a strong academic record, with a 4.0 GPA and a weighted average of 4.27 at the Science Academy STEM Magnet, an extremely academically-focused school in North Hollywood. I have embraced the challenges of a rigorous academic curriculum, having completed a multitude of Advanced Placement courses during my high school years, with a total of 12 by the time of my graduation. My passion for academics extends beyond the classroom, as I have consistently achieved excellence in various academic competitions, including StellarXplorers, Speech and Debate, and Science Olympiad. My experiences in these competitions have honed my ability to perform under pressure, collaborate effectively with my peers, and maintain a strong work ethic. I am excited about the prospect of combining my academic achievements with my passion for golf at the collegiate level and contributing to a college golf team that values dedication, hard work, and the pursuit of excellence.
