My name is Gabriella Ello and I am a 16 year old Filipino-American. Currently, I am a junior at Cherokee Trail High School in Aurora, Colorado. I have been playing golf since I was 7 years old, and the first time I touched a club, I immediately fell in love with the sport. What makes me different than other athletes is not my score or my swing, but rather my mentality and my perseverance. Whenever I am out on the range or on the course, my goal isn’t to beat others but it’s to beat myself. I am always striving to improve and push myself past my comfort zone, gradually lowering my scores. Personally, I think golf is absolutely one of the hardest sports because not only does it test one’s ability to swing, putt, and chip, but it is also a mind game. One of the things I am working on is getting past my bad shots and having a constant, positive mentality throughout the round. One day, I could have the best swing ever but without a winning attitude and confidence in myself, it would mean nothing. Golf is very important to me and is a huge part of what defines me. Whenever I have free time, I spend it practicing on the range, watching golf videos, or playing a few holes. Ever since I was little, I was taught never to give up and to always strive for my goals no matter the roadblocks. If I received the opportunity to play golf in college, I would bring this mentality with me and never stop pushing myself to grow and improve. Also, I love meeting new people and sparking new conversations! Although golf is an individual sport, the connections and friends that you make during tournaments are unforgettable and definitely one of my favorite parts! I would love to be part of a college golf team and create those bonds that would stay with me forever. Throughout my life, I have always been very involved with school and extracurricular activities. Some unique things about me are: I am a black belt in karate and taekwondo and I love playing the drums! Currently, I am Student Body Vice President and part of Student Leadership; we, as a class, work hard every year to plan events such as Homecoming, Prom, and raise money for kids with life-threatening illnesses during Wish Week. Committing to causes greater than my own is something that’s very important to me because not only does it teach me to be humble and grateful for everything, but it allows me to make a difference and help those around me. My education is also important to me and something I take very seriously. I love to challenge myself and take courses, such as AP and Honors classes, that will help prepare me for the future. One of my goals is to be valedictorian which is something I’ve been working on since the first day of my freshman year. Regarding my future, I would love to go to a D1 or D2 school for golf and study biochemistry. Hopefully, I would go on to medical school where I would pursue my life long dream of becoming a surgeon. Overall, I am someone who is hardworking, persevering, positive, social, and eager! And I cannot wait to see where my future takes me, thank you!
