Dear Coach,
Thank you for taking your time to review my resume.
Golf has become my greatest passion and I am very fortunate that it has come naturally. Both of my parents are golf professionals in the Colorado section. My father is the Director of Instruction at Ute Creek Golf Course in Longmont and my mother is the Head Professional at The Ranch Country Club. Both of my parents and my older brother have encouraged me to pursue golf, but I was never forced.
The game of golf has been the ultimate teacher in my life from many perspectives. It has instilled a work ethic that comes into play in many aspects of my life. This wonderful game has taught me how to have perseverance in any situation, even when I want to quit. Most of all, it has taught me how to have sportsmanship and integrity.
I have been playing the game ever since I could walk, but when I turned fourteen I decided golf was what I wanted to pursue at the next level. Golf has taught me so much about myself and has already brought me to amazing places. For the past three years I have played in the Optimist International Golf Tournament in Florida. The people I met and the experience I gained was irreplaceable.
I believe that golf parallels life. Golf teaches you forgiveness, as every shot you just hit is in the past and you can not go back and change it. Golf builds grit, as the competitiveness in me doesn't want to loose and it is not over until your last putt drops. My brother will always be essential to my development. He tells me over and over if I want to pursue golf I need to work hard so I can develop, and if I want to be known in golf I have to outwork everyone. He is pursuing his passion, playing D1 golf at the University of Northern Colorado. The best piece of advice I have ever heard was from him, “Everyday and every tournament you have to play to win, and if you aren't playing to win then what is the point of playing at all?” The moment I heard those words, my mindset shifted. I knew that golf was my primary purpose along with academics. Seeing my brother succeed in these areas has pushed me to max out my potential.
I currently attend Mead High School and am in the graduation class of 2022. In the past, I have played basketball in the winters, but now I am devoted to golfing year round. I run cross country in the fall to keep my mental discipline and cardio in shape. My parents have always told me being a good athlete is just as important as being a good golfer.
I play a full schedule of Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado tournaments in the summer and fall. I play golf for my highschool in the spring, and in the offseason I will play in AJGA tournaments. In the summer, three days a week I go to work with my mom and practice from eight to three. The other days I practice with my dad and work on the mechanics of my swing. During the summer I also give back my time and help teach junior golf clinics that my parents run.
Away from golf I have a weighted GPA of4.133 and an unweighted GPA of a 3.867. I intend to go as far as I can in golf but I understand the importance of a great education. I would like to earn a degree in business or hospitality management. I love music and have been playing the piano for eight years, taking lessons once a week. I love to travel, ski, hike, and climb 14ers to experience nature's beauty. Lastly, I love spending time with my friends who have helped shape me into the person I am today. I am forever grateful for the time I get to spend with them.
All in all, I love discovering more about myself and finding what makes me most happy. Each of the hobbies listed above fill me with happiness, but for me hitting a pure golf shot under pressure is the greatest feeling in the world. Winning at the next level has always been my dream and I believe your university will bring unlimited possibilities for me and my game. I am a student that is eager to improve in golf, academics, and life. I sense my best golf is in my future, and I know I can bring great value to your team and be an asset by having a good work ethic, a sense of humor, and being coachable. Being a part of your team will offer an invaluable opportunity for the development of my game, knowledge, and character. The people I will meet and the relationships I will gain from this opportunity will change my life and last forever.
I really appreciate you reading this under your busy schedule.
Best regards,
Timbre Shehee
