Hello! My name is Lauren Ogrodowicz and I am a member of the Class of 2024 at Stratford High School in Stratford, Connecticut. I am an avid golfer and scholar athlete who has overcome adversity and hope to attend a school where I can contribute to a team while pursuing an education in a STEM related field.
I started playing golf when I was 7 years old but didn’t start being competitive about the game until the pandemic happened. The pandemic gave me the opportunity to focus on my golf skills which increased my desire to play at the college level. I played in my first tournament in Summer 2020 and then increased my tournament experiences in the next two seasons, playing in multiple tournaments. My goal is to be part of a college golf program where I can be a contributing player but also have time to focus on my studies and be part of the college community. Competitive sports have always been a very big part of my life and my diverse experiences make me a great addition to a team. Early on, I was a competitive dancer and then switched my focus to basketball and golf. I played on several travel AAU teams for basketball and was a member of the Junior Golf Team at Tashua Knolls Golf course before starting high school. In high school, I have been a three varsity athlete every year participating in cross country, basketball and golf. I continued to participate in AAU basketball during the off season but plan to focus on golf tournaments this upcoming summer. Experiencing competition with many teams, different coaches and in a variety of sports has made me a coachable and valuable team member.
One thing that makes me who I am and differentiates me from other players is the challenges I have faced reaching my goals while having a profound hearing loss. I wear bi-lateral Cochlear Implants and without them I am completely deaf. The implants provide me access to speech and sound but I have daily challenges. I have never looked at my disability as an obstacle to achieving my goals and have always been willing to work that much harder to be successful. I inspire people to never give up and prove to them nothing should stand in your way to reaching your goals. My experience has put me in leadership positions earlier than most athletes would be. I have been captain of each of my sports, received state level recognition in basketball and am the only person in my high school’s history to be designated an All-State golfer. Academically, I have been lucky to have great supports in place to be successful. I attend an honors STEM program for part of my high school classes and maintain a 3.77 GPA. I am a member of the National Honor Society and Science Honor Society and have received the scholar athlete designation for each season of my sports. I am one of the hardest working student athletes you will ever meet!
I am looking forward to finding a college that is a good fit for me both academically and athletically.
I appreciate your time and thank you for your consideration.
