Hi my name is Mara Flaherty and I am a junior at Naperville North High School in IL. I have played varsity golf since my freshman year. In high school I have earned all- conference honors my freshman, sophomore and junior year. Over the last few years, I have grown to understand the necessary dedication and perseverance it takes to be my best both on and off the golf course. One of my strengths is my ability to manage my time in keeping up with practice schedules while maintaining my academics. I create goals and make a plan to achieve them. My focus and determination has made me a successful player and athlete. I consider myself a fiery competitor with a great heart.
While high school golf has been amazing exposure to the team atmosphere, my best competition has come from events during the spring/summer tournament season. I competed in 10 tournaments last summer, several of which were multi-day events. The highlight of my season was at the IWGA Illinois Junior Amateur tournament in Savoy, IL at the University of Illinois Orange course. I scored 71 in round 1 and 75 in round 2 to finish 4th in what was a very strong field of 82 players. One of the highlights of the Fall High School season was at the Naperville North Invitational on September 23. I scored a 67, a new personal best, a school record and a 2nd place finish for our team. Our team qualified for the Illinois High School Athletics State (IHSA) Tournament. There were twelve teams and a field of 111 girls. I finished in 14th place with a two day score of 151. My goal this year was to make the Top 20, so I was satisfied with the result. I finished 2nd at our sectional with a score of 74.
I have several events planned for this Spring/Summer. My season kicks off at the AJGA Preview at Meadowbrook in Mt. Pleasant, WI , May 5-7. Please find a full list of my schedule in the Events section on NCSA
I am looking for a school that can fit my academic and athletic needs. I have a 4.1 GPA and I am in the process of completing the ACT/SAT testing this Spring. I am considering an academic major in the area of Business Administration where I can explore my passion for leading teams. I am looking for a school that has a good program for that field of study.
Ideally, I would like to make an impact on the team starting my freshman year, but I also recognize that I can still improve my game and can learn a great deal from my experienced teammates. I am coachable, motivated and hard-working. In addition to the information captured here on NCSA, please visit my website.
