Hi Coaches,
I'm currently a junior at Moorestown Friends School in NJ and play on the varsity (co-ed) golf team. I made varsity my first time out and have been playing both high school and league golf (PGA Philadelphia Sector Junior Tour). While I've been playing golf for just a few years, last season was my first playing competitive golf. Unfortunately, our season was cut short because of Covid-19. Because of this, I don't have a lot of stats to post yet as I've only played three tournaments but finished 1st in one and 3rd in the other two.
Since Covid cut the competitive season short, I've been using this down time to really work on my game. I currently train with our club pro (Mike Mack) at Burlington Country Club (NJ), taking swing lessons once a week and spending 2-3 days (at least) practicing in the training studio at the club. My main focus has been increasing club head speed and distance and I'm currently hitting a 7-iron about 139 yds with a club head speed avg. of 73 mph. I've also been working diligently on my short game with a focus on building a more consistent putting stroke.
Aside from my golf skills, one thing I think that really distinguishes me is the persistence and discipline I've gained by overcoming my learning disability. I have a condition known as "central auditory processing disorder" and it makes me have to work significantly harder then most students. Overcoming this disability has required a lot of persistence on my part and helped me develop "grit". This same persistence and grit is where I get my competitive mindset from. It's also what propels me to work hard both on my academics and on my game and continue to push myself to hit one more ball or take one more putt during each practice session.
While I enjoy the individual aspects of golf, being on a team and having teammates is a huge motivation for me. I love the bonding aspect of team sports and supporting one another--something I learned from playing high school field hockey. As a member of a team, I always engage with my coaches and ask "what can I do better" or "is there anything I can do to be a better contributor to our team?".
Coach, in short, I would absolutely love to play for your team. I hope through the information I have shared, you can see that I am a dedicated and hard working student athlete who is always up for a challenge and someone who has a lot to offer to a team like yours. I would welcome the opportunity to elaborate on my motivations for playing on your team, share more about my academic background, and get to know more about you and your golf program.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for considering me as a future member of your women's golf team.
Sincerely,
Ella Miller
