*Note: NCSA does not have my school listed underneath the international , hence why it currently states I still attend Columbus School for Girls in Columbus, Ohio. I am a grade 11 student in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, at Ashbury College. However, my Columbus School for Girls coach reference (Chris Ditello) is still accurate because he was my most recent coach.*
To be completely honest, I never thought that I would be here; writing a personal statement on a recruiting platform hopefully to be noticed by a college golf coach. Like, when 7-year-old me was handed a golf club at the small 9 hole course around the corner, I doubt anyone in my family would think that golf would soon become my passion in life to be continued with my higher education. Over the years, I've fallen in love with the game. The grit, strength, and edge it's given me in life, the people I've met that I now call family, and my high school golf team. I couldn't be more fortunate to be able to play this great game. But for right now, I'm still trying to find the right words to put into my personal statement. Hopefully, I'm doing an alright job?
Athletically, I've been playing golf for 8 years now. I am 15 years old and rising junior at Ashbury College in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. For the past two years, I've attended Columbus School for Girls in Columbus, Ohio, playing on the DII girls golf team, ranked one of the DII teams in the state. We were district and league champions in 2019, where I played on the #1 and #2 spots on the varsity team. At the state tournament, I ranked T-51 out of 70 places after a challenging 2 days of tournament play. I did not play my best, but for playing in one of my first large tournaments, I was excited to be there and finally playing with some of the best junior golfers in the state, only to advance my skill.
Academically, I have had a 3.7-3.8 GPA for my first 2 years of high school, taking all honors/AP courses and challenging myself through many extracurriculars, including violin, starting my own sustainability club, and working for a composting company. Since I am moving to Canada, I am eligible to participate in my new school's IB program, so my goal is to get an IB diploma when I graduate in 2022.
Personally, I am a Canadian born to an English father and Canadian mother, raised in the US and Canada. My dad has been my golf coach for my entire golf career and has taught me everything I have needed to know as far as my mental and physical game can expand. I have also had the opportunity to volunteer at Raymond Memorial GC under Kelly Trent, LPGA, and learn what it means to be a valuable employee and understand how a golf course and the game works! While moving to Canada, I am actually quite excited about the new challenges I need to face going into grade 11. Due to COVID-19 and the new country, I currently do not know which tournaments I will be eligible to compete in this summer/fall, hence the lack of tournament data on my profile. Hopefully, that will change soon!
Thank you so much for your time, and please reach out if you have any questions!
