Personal Statement

When I started playing golf about two years ago, I don’t think I really knew what a rollercoaster I was getting on. What I knew was that I discovered a real love of golf and the excitement in the payoff that comes with hard work. I didn’t really understand that sometimes the payoff to the hard work isn’t immediate and sometimes getting better means pushing through frustration even when the dream seems far away.

The last year brought some challenges. I set big goals and made action steps to get there. I put in lots of work but I wasn’t seeing the gains that I thought that I should. My game was either really good or really off and there was very little consistency. I made a coaching change and started to see improvements, but not at the rate that I wanted for myself. I was blessed because my parents saw my frustration and talked to my new swing coach and were able to take me in for a custom fitting with an amazing fitter who told me that my swing was great and we just needed the right equipment in my hands. Boy, was he right!

At the first of summer 2022, I started playing with irons that were fit just for me as well as my driver and woods that had been customized to what I needed. I began to see results almost immediately with my game and my confidence came back. As a result of my hard work in practice sessions and working closely with my coach, I have made great gains this summer and expect those gains to continue.

The other area that I have had to work hard on is my mindset and mental game. When things aren’t going great, it is easy to lose focus and turn negative or lose your belief in what you can do. While I never lost the belief in myself, I am really hard on myself, so I have spent time working on “letting go… next shot.” I am lucky that I have identified some amazing mentors that help me with all aspects of my game and encourage me and hold me accountable. In addition, I am fortunate to be working with Troy Bassham who is helping me identify my stregths and to set a mental program in place that will allow me to continue to develop and reach my goals. I am already seeing a big difference in how I handle pressure, respond when things are going well (and when they aren't!), and am excited to see my hard work continue to pay off.

Over the next 6 months, I intend to keep working on my mental game and mindset while also focusing on conditioning and stamina for playing at a much higher level and in all course conditions. I am focused on lowering my scores by developing consistency through focused practice and careful reflection on what needs work. I have gained a clearer vision for who I am as a golfer and who I aspire to be and am putting specific practices into place to bring them into reality.

I still love the challenge of playing new and different courses and meeting new people as I go. I continue to be known for encouraging others and one of my favorite things to do is mentor younger players and help them discover how great golf is. While making the All-SPC team at the Championship this year allowed me to check off a goal, I am most proud of the number of coaches and parents who spoke to my coach or my parents and told them how much they enjoyed watching me play and that they appreciated my attitude on the course and that I was a tremendous sport.

I love that golf is a sport that I can play forever. I have an unwavering commitment to reach the big goals I have for my golf career, and I want a college opportunity that can help me realize those dreams, from playing competitively to encouraging others to take up the sport that I love.

  • Shady Valley Country Club Women's Club Championship
  • 7/30/22 to 7/31/22
  • 78-82 -- 5,172 yds,-- 71.8/121-- 1st/16 -- Because my club did not have enough Junior girls to play in a championship, I was allowed to play up a division for this tournament and play in the Women's Championship. This was an exciting tournament for me because I was playing against some good players that I have grown up watching and that I respect. It was also the first time that I finished day 1 in the lead and slept on a lead. I was able to play the second day and add a stroke to my lead and post the win by 7 strokes and earn the title of Women's Club Championship. While this is my home course and it is familiar, this tournament was kind of a challenge because I usually play it longer (just over 6,100 yds) so I had to make adjustments to my strategy and game. The weather was actually nice for us with temperatures below 90 to start rounds and not reaching feels like temperatures above 100 degrees until the very end of my rounds.
  • Camp/Event
  • Medalist Tour Summer Area Championship (Invitational)
  • 7/25/22 to 7/25/22
  • 83-- 5,464 yds-- 67.2/117 -- T5/33-- I started this round strong and then had some struggles in the middle but was able to regain my mindset and finish well. I am proud of being able to make adjustments in the middle of the round and shoot an 83. I did not feel like I played my best but I will continue to work on mindset to improve. The conditions were again very hot with heat indexes above 100 degrees.
  • Camp/Event
  • NTXPGA Junior Tour Medalist
  • 7/20/22 to 7/20/22
  • 80 -- 5,625 yards -- 71.1/113 -- 1st/ 11-- This round was all about stamina. I was pleased with the fact that I made it through the round with half of my division dropping out due to heat-related issues. I am also proud of my scrambling in this round with only hitting 9 fairways. I am continuing to work on accuracy with my irons and wedges. The conditions were again hot with the feels like temperatures reaching 112 degrees.
  • Camp/Event
  • All American Tour Crown Golf
  • 7/18/22 to 7/19/22
  • 81-83 -- 5,787 yards -- 72.0/122 -- 8th/17 — I am proud of how much more consistency I am getting as I play more tournaments. I am developing stamina in extreme playing conditions and really developing a feel for adjustments I need to make out on the course when playing. The conditions both days were extremely hot with 8 girls in my division alone dropping out due to heat in round 1. The feels like temperature ranged from 100-112 over the course of the 2 rounds.
  • Camp/Event
  • Chisholm Trail Golf Tour
  • 7/06/22 to 7/06/22
  • 72 -- 5,009 yards -- 70.0/118 -- 1st/10 — This was my first time to play a links course. I liked playing the links course because it was a bit different than what I was used to. I set a new all around best score. My front 9 was amazing shooting -2 and then shooting a +2 on the back for my even 72! The conditions were hot and windy.
  • Camp/Event
  • Chisholm Trail Golf Tour
  • 6/28/22 to 6/28/22
  • 84 -- 6,040 yards -- 76.4/141 -- T1st/13 -- I hit 12/18 GIR and had a really strong front 9 but struggled a bit more on the back. While I hit more greens I continue to work on putting the approach tight into the pin. The playing conditions were HOT.
  • Camp/Event
  • NTXPGA Junior Tour Medalist
  • 6/21/22 to 6/21/22
  • 79 -- 5,182 yards -- 70.9/126 -- T1st/15 -- I felt like I was super strong off the tee on this round. My putting was solid. I only hit half of the GIR so approach is something that I am continuing to work on. The playing conditions were hot and muggy.
  • Camp/Event
  • All American Tour Girls Series #2
  • 6/13/22 to 6/14/22
  • 86-86 -- 5,939 yards -- 74.7/136 -- 28th/38 -- This round I played with consistency and I was pleased with the outcome of how I played. I am still working on settling into the distances for the new irons. The conditions were very windy with temperatures reaching right at 100 degrees.
  • Camp/Event
  • NTX PGA Junior Tour Medlist
  • 6/07/22 to 6/07/22
  • 91-- 5,298yards -- 66.0/122 -- T3rd/12 -- This was my second round with my new irons and only my first tournament with them. I played super solid on the back nine, after an extremely rough start. The highlight of this round was that I birdied number 18 to finish the round. The conditions for this round were hot and windy.
  • Camp/Event
  • All American Tour Summer Classic
  • 6/01/22 to 6/02/22
  • 91-94 -- 5,861 yards -- 70.7/128 -- 17th/22 -- Just before this tournament I got fitted for new irons. I did very well and was super confident with my tee shots. My wedge work solid during this tournament. I am continuing to work on reading greens. The conditions for this tournament were hot and very muggy.
