My ultimate goal is to earn a business or pre-law degree from a top notch university in the northeastern part of the U.S. and play on its women’s golf team. Then I will pursue a law degree in a prestigious law school. My goal is a career in law where I make a difference in my community and play golf for fun with colleagues and family. Basically, I want a career like my dad’s!
My parents instilled in me the love of learning, the importance of higher education, and always encouraged me to dream big and think even bigger! They always cheer me on and fully support my decisions even when I decided not to go to their alma mater. My family enjoys traveling and playing golf so we have played golf in many parts of the country. It is a thrill every time we play at a different course and broaden our horizons. Every year, I feel more adventurous, independent, and disciplined. My favorite part of the country is NewYork and the New England area. This winter break, I plan to be in New York City and perform at Carnegie Hall in a winners piano recital on December 21, 2020.
What makes me a good candidate for your women’s golf team is my love for the sport of golf, my dedication, selflessness, athleticism, competitive nature, and strong work ethic. I am the first 2-year golf team captain at my school, voted by my teammates at the end of my sophomore year.
I know I look different from other recruits: first of all, I grew up on the Texas Gulf Coast, the “Third Coast.” Playing golf in my hometown of Corpus Christi has its own challenges, especially the climate and crazy wind. I usually play in 90-100% humidity, extremely high heat indexes, and in 20-30 miles per hour wind gusts. My high school’s home course has trees that grow bent at a 45-degree angle rather than perpendicular to the ground. Secondly, I keep very busy. I am a doer. Besides being in the top 1% of my graduating class, I am active in community minded organizations. I have also played competitive piano for 12 years. Piano has been a big part of my life, and the discipline this level of playing demands has helped me develop as a competitive student athlete. I hope to play piano for pleasure, when my schedule permits. Lastly, I bring some diversity, being Hispanic, plus lots of laughs. One of my favorite hobbies is baking desserts and feeding hungry people around me. For me, education is like cake and playing golf is frosting on the cake. I cannot imagine life without either, and how sweet life would be to enjoy both during college!
