I surprised myself when I decided to turn out for golf my freshman year. My dad tried to get me to play in middle school, but I was focused on other sports at the time. I picked up the sport quickly, enjoying the challenge. I learned a lot from golf between now and then. Integrity is an important life skill that is critical for golf, as well as responsibility and respect. This experience has helped me grow to be a better athlete and overall person.
I was lucky enough to have an amazing team and a great coaching staff to help me learn the game. I was team captain in my sophomore and junior year, and plan to be captain my senior year. In this position I help schedule practice meets and connect with other captains and coaches, teaching me responsibility and real-life skills. I help with the boy's golf season as well, which doubles my exposure through school-related activities.
I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn real-life skills through golf and in all other aspects of high school.
