My favorite track experience has been taking 1st place for pole vault at a league meet with a 1-foot pr. There I was able to push through mentally and have confidence in myself after being in a pr-slump. Putting to work the lessons from practice into a meet and having that turn into a win made me refocus and even more determined to continue to grow physically and mentally. My current goal is to reach 9'6” for pole vault, 100' for javelin, and since I net my goal of 90' for discus recently, my new goal is 100’ for that as well.
For me, the best part of track is being able to have a sense of community from teammates and coaches, even though we compete on the individual level. Being self-motivated and working on becoming a better athlete has driven me to improve all parts of my character, especially during the offseason with weight training and yoga without sacrificing academics. Being a three-sport athlete, I also have learned the value of teamwork and to compete knowing that failures are only events, and to not let the fear of failing stop me.
