I started playing hockey because my brother played and I immediately knew that I wanted to continue playing and developing in hockey. I have grown tremendously as a person since starting to play hockey and have become stronger mentally. Being the only girl on an all boys team has had its challenges but I have learned how to overcome them and earned the respect of coaches and teammates which has helped me in hockey, school, and everyday life. Winning the 2018 high school national championships was one of my favorite experiences in high school and my hockey career so far. Being able to travel with my team and be able to accomplish something so incredible is something I will not forget.
This is my second year playing boys Varsity D1 and third Varsity D3 for SMCHS. Our D1 team won the 2018 High School National Championship and came in second at the 2017 National Championships. I have been coached by former NHL players, Craig Johnson and Scott Niedermayer. This year I am also playing for the Jr. Sharks 19 AAA girls team. We will be travelling to at least six tournaments in the USA and two in Canada. I have always played up in women's hockey. At 14 I was asked to play for Lady Ducks 19AAA and at 15, I play for the Lady Sharks 19AAA team.
I am a Junior at Santa Margarita Catholic High School, where i have a 3.9 GPA and am taking AP and IB classes. In college, I would like to major in biology or chemistry and become a forensic scientist or a wildlife biologist. My goal for college is to go to a high academic school and play D1 or highly competitive D3 ice hockey. I graduate in 2020 and am looking for an opportunity to play college hockey directly out of high school. Although it is a dream to play D1 or D3 hockey in college, academics is my priority. Playing for two hockey teams and my high schools lacrosse team has helped me build my time management skills. I am confident that I can handle academics and athletics in college as well.
Outside of school and hockey, I give speeches in front of hundreds of people to help raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project and have raised over four thousand dollars. It has helped me to grow as a person and I hope to continue raising money for them as well as branching off into other projects such as building houses for people who need them. For the past two years, my high school team and I have delivered Christmas trees around the community and donate Christmas trees to the soldiers and their families. In addition to Christmas trees, I bring toys for the soldiers children. I hope one day to be able to travel around the USA and Africa to build houses for less fortunate families.
