July 2018Personal Statement
My family has been the strongest influence on me. They raised me to be a good, hardworking, and empathetic person. The lessons they taught me will forever resonate in the way I carry myself. They told me to surround myself with people that make me a better person on and off the ice. I began skating when I was about four years old and immediately wanted hockey skates like my dad. When I finally got them my parents signed me up for hockey camps. I was dying to go. I excelled quickly and easily fell in love with the sport.
When I grew older and began playing more competitive and time consuming hockey it became a true fulfillment for me. When I'm playing hockey I connect with myself and feel great to to play the sport I love. Throughout my years of playing hockey I've learned that I am a very different person when I play the game. When I get into my "zone" I have one focus, making sure I do everything I can to keep the puck out of the net and support my teammates. My teammates and I have a very good connection, on and off the ice. They tell me that I am a great motivator and that they are comfortable talking to me, which I find to be key.
Academically, I would like to continue excelling in all my courses. I always make sure that I don't fall behind in class, and if I do I'm very persistent on meeting with the teacher and catching up. I work to stay on Honor Roll. I plan to do the same in college! I like to stay academically and athletically well balanced.
