Allyson Schmelz '24 Recruiting Profile

Hello, my name is Ally Schmelz and I'm a 2006 defenseman. I've been playing hockey since I was 9 years old and ever since then I knew that I wanted to play at the collegiate level. I currently play for the St. Louis Lady Cyclones Elite AA team in the Northern Illinois Hockey League (NIHL) and for my high school, the Liberty Eagles. During that time, I was a starting defenseman on our Cyclones team that went to nationals in 2021. I am very proud to be the first girl to play on my high school team and to be named a starter on the JV team. As an offensive minded defensive player I led my Cyclones team in points by a defenseman during the 2022/23 season and I most recently won the best shooter competition at the Pred's Girls Classic in 2023. I was also selected to Team Missouri and participated in the 2023 America's Showcase.

I pride myself in being a leader and playing hockey the right way. I have been recognized by my coaches with sportsmanship awards, as well as, being named alternate captain on my Cyclones team. I regularly help mentor younger players at my club's learn to play sessions and volunteer to help at many club events, including the Cyclones Girls Try Hockey For Free recruiting event. I am passionate about growing girls hockey!

Academics are also very important to me. I have challenged myself by taking many advanced and college level classes in high school and maintaining a high GPA. I am interested in studying engineering in college. In addition to my advanced coursework, I have been highlighted for my leadership in my high school marching, concert and jazz bands.

I am excited for the next stage of my academic and athletic journey. I am looking for an opportunity to challenge myself to be the best player and student I can be while continuing to have the opportunity to give back to the sport that has given so much to me.
