Hi, my name is Sophie Smith (#13) and I am a forward on the U19 AAA Carolina Jr. Hurricanes Girls team. I am a 2025 graduate with a 4.6 GPA and I was born in 2007. I could write a book on how much hockey has impacted my life. Discovering the sport of hockey on TV one night has probably had the biggest impact of any event in my life so far. I was amazed and I wanted to try it as soon as I saw it. I began learning to skate and play, and haven’t looked back since. Hockey has allowed me to form friendships from all around the US and Canada. I have also learned lessons that I will continue to use in life. It has taught me about teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship, but has also taught me about hard work in life and school, as well as time management. I can’t express my love for the game in any other way than by putting in the work to be the best that I can be. I am highly motivated and always striving to get better and be the best. I am very competitive, hate losing, but also know there are lessons in not always winning. Being a good leader and losing with grace is equally as important as winning. I love hockey so much and I want to continue to play for as long as I can… and then some. Playing a sport in college has been my dream for as long as I can remember and I will work as hard as I can to achieve that dream.
