Dear Coach,
I would like to introduce myself and express my interest in your academic institution and your hockey program. My name is Jane Pancoe, I am 16 years old, I am a grade 11 student at St. John’s College (Brantford, Ontario, Canada). I am playing in my third year of Midget AA hockey with the Brantford Ice Cats where I have recently been named team captain.
I am 5’9” tall, 170lbs, shoot left and I can play both forward and defense. Prior to playing in the OWHA, I competed in the Alliance Minor Hockey Association where I played at the A/AA level and was co-captain of the teams I played on.
I have established a very strong and committed work ethic both on and off the ice with a genuine interest to continue to improve my hockey skills. Although skating may be one of my strengths, I am dedicated to improving this skill by participating in off-ice training and skating instruction that is directed to improve both my mobility and foot speed. I come from a very athletic family; my father, Don Pancoe, played in the Ontario Hockey League and was drafted to the Pittsburgh Penguins and my grandfather also played in the Ontario Hockey League. My mother and father are both police officers and we reside in the City of Brantford. I pride myself in being a very competitive and supportive teammate but also recognize I need to work on and improve the small areas of my game including my agility. In 2018 I participated in the Ontario Summer Games which provided me with a better understanding of what it takes to play at an elite level of hockey.
Moving forward, my goal is to be on the honours list at school, complete my high school studies, then continue my post secondary education while playing hockey at the most competitive level possible. My team is competing in four tournaments this season. If you or any members of your staff attend any of these, I would be interested in speaking with you further and receiving any feedback that you have to offer. Please see below for our game times and location. September 6th- 8th Stoney Creek Showcase tournament, November 28th- December 1st Brampton Showcase tournament, January 10th- 12th Ottawa Showcase tournament, February 21st – 23rd Walter Gretzky tournament Brantford
I have attached a letter from the Director of Olympia Sports Camp in Huntsville, Ontario, where I had an opportunity to attend this year as part of a Leadership program and a camp counsellor. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.
Sincerely, Jane Pancoe

To Whom It May Concern
What an honour it is to say a few words of support on behalf of Jane Pancoe. I have known Jane for two months as Leadership camper and as a staff member at Olympia Sports Camp and I can honestly say, there are very few people who meet the standards that Jane does when it comes to character, leadership, reliability, team play and sound judgement.
Jane was chosen to participate in the 3 week leadership program at Olympia Sports Camp, based on her strong references and her covering letter which included her goals to be a NCAA hockey player and her passion to work with children at Olympia Sports Camp one day.
Jane was outstanding in this leadership program. Her final grade was an A+, but more important she demonstrated herself as a team player and a servant leader dedicated to helping others. The Olympia staff was so impressed by her, she was immediately hired on to staff to work as a counsellor for the remaining weeks of the summer.
Jane was an outstanding counsellor who had a strong vision for safety and responsibility. The age of her campers ranged from 9-15, including campers with special needs.
Jane is an effective communicator and one who pays attention to detail. Jane coached and provided assistance coaching a wide variety of sports and also ran nearly every type of evening program including Don’t Forget the Lyrics, Carnival, Minute to win it, Murder Mystery, etc. Throughout her time on staff, Jane continually took on more of a leadership role and would help out other new staff members.
Jane is well-liked and respected by the entire camp staff. So much so that this year Olympia decided to institute a special award known as the Leader in Training award. Jane will be receiving that honour tonight at the staff banquet.
As a camp director for the past 30 years, I can honestly say that Jane is one of the most outstanding employees and young leaders I have had the pleasure of working with. She will be a most welcome addition to your most worthy institution. Jane knows she is most welcome to return to Olympia any time and we are hoping she will continue to be a staff member for many years to come.
Sincerely
Greg Rogers
