I had a late start in hockey. I didn't start playing until I was 10 years old and my first year, I played defence. I tried out to be the Peewee goalie and loved it! Since then, I've played in goal and I am now the starter goalie.
At CIHA, I have a great coach and an awesome goalie coach and in the short time I've been playing at this level, my game has really improved because of the coaching, the ice time, the level of play (AA versus house league), the dryland training and the fantastic opportunity that I have been given. I am extremely thankful for this and I am working hard to keep on improving my game. Since I have had a late start in hockey, I haven't had the opportunity to try out for provincial and national teams. I have worked very hard while at school and have been the starter goalie for the last 2 years. Now, I have been selected to play for the Nepean Wildcats in the PWHL. I have also been offered the opportunity to do a post grad year at NAHA but I have declined in order to play in the PWHL. A dream of mine would be to make the national team and play in the 2018 Olympics.
Academics are also very important to me. I want to obtain my degree in sports science, athletic training, kinesiology or sciences and to continue to work in women's hockey when I am too old to play competitively. I want to promote hockey to all girls and especially to girls in small towns like Chapleau so that they have the same chances I am currently having. This is really important to me; I want to be a mentor, just like I am being mentored. This opportunity has been life changing for me and I want to offer a similar opportunity to another girl like me.
I am looking for a university which will allow me to improve my game and keep bringing it to the next level so that I can work towards my dream of making the national team for Canada. I would also like this university to offer a quality academic program which will allow me to work in women's hockey and to mentor other girls like me. Lastly, I would also like this university to have a French language program so that I have the opportunity to continue speaking in French, whether it is in a classroom setting or just chatting with others. Being Francophone and being fluently bilingual, this is very important to me.
