Dear Future Coach,
My hockey journey began at age 5 with playing ball hockey with the boys in the schoolyard. I fell in love with the game immediately! Since I had been skating for a few years by then, I asked my parents if I could play ice hockey the next season. They weren't sold on the idea at first but due to my persistence, they finally agreed. I was so excited! I still remember trying on hockey gear for the first time (my mom says it was the biggest smile she has ever seen on a kid!) and it was at that moment that my parents finally understood my desire to play hockey. This began my journey to becoming the Tier 1 player that I am today.
Hockey has taught me that I am resilient and strong. It has taught me leadership skills and to appreciate the wins and learn from the losses. Hockey has also taught me that people can be different (different views, different backgrounds) but yet work toward a common goal. The best part of hockey is being part of a team that really respects one another! I am a huge proponent of teamwork and believe that the pass is as valuable as the goal! As for my interests, I am a versatile player with experience playing multiple positions. While I lean toward playing Centre, I am also comfortable on wing and even defense.
My academic goals for high school are to maintain high honors so that I can achieve my goal of playing on a college team. This has been a dream of mine since making my first competitive team at the age of 7. When I’m not playing hockey, I love to play other sports (especially badminton) but also enjoy reading and sketching, two activities which help me to relax. I am interested in a career in medicine and so I am leaning toward a Science stream for my undergraduate degree.
Thanks for taking the time to learn more about me! I cannot wait to hear from you.
Alex
