Personal Statement

Dear Future Coach,

My hockey journey began at age 5 with playing ball hockey with the boys in the schoolyard. I fell in love with the game immediately! Since I had been skating for a few years by then, I asked my parents if I could play ice hockey the next season. They weren't sold on the idea at first but due to my persistence, they finally agreed. I was so excited! I still remember trying on hockey gear for the first time (my mom says it was the biggest smile she has ever seen on a kid!) and it was at that moment that my parents finally understood my desire to play hockey. This began my journey to becoming the Tier 1 player that I am today.

Hockey has taught me that I am resilient and strong. It has taught me leadership skills and to appreciate the wins and learn from the losses. Hockey has also taught me that people can be different (different views, different backgrounds) but yet work toward a common goal. The best part of hockey is being part of a team that really respects one another! I am a huge proponent of teamwork and believe that the pass is as valuable as the goal! As for my interests, I am a versatile player with experience playing multiple positions. While I lean toward playing Centre, I am also comfortable on wing and even defense.

My academic goals for high school are to maintain high honors so that I can achieve my goal of playing on a college team. This has been a dream of mine since making my first competitive team at the age of 7. When I’m not playing hockey, I love to play other sports (especially badminton) but also enjoy reading and sketching, two activities which help me to relax. I am interested in a career in medicine and so I am leaning toward a Science stream for my undergraduate degree.

Thanks for taking the time to learn more about me! I cannot wait to hear from you.

Alex

Club Information

  • Seasons of Club Experience
  • 8 seasons
  • 2025 Ottawa Lady 67s (U18AA )
  • I joined this team October 2024 (was previously a member of the the East Ottawa Stars U18AA team).
  • 2024 East Ottawa Stars (U15AA)
  • 2023-2024 OWHL Eastern Champions, team also qualified for the 2024 OWHL Provincials
  • 2023 East Ottawa Stars (U15AA)
  • Made the U15AA team in my minor year as a defenseman (2022-2023). The team was short a forward and so I asked the coach if I could play forward on occasion as I had played Left Wing in the past. I believe it went well since from that point on, I played Left Wing (with some penalty killing as a blueliner)! Our team qualified for OWHA provincials and made it to the quarterfinals.
  • 2022 Nepean Wildcats (U13 (PeeWee) AA)
  • This 2021-2022 season I played defense for the first time. I played a bit of D in practice drills during the COVID season where there were no games so this season as a defenseman gave me the opportunity to improve my forward game by seeing the game from a different perspective.
  • 2020 Nepean Wildcats (U11 (Atom) AA)
  • I played Left Wing most of the season with some Centre at the end before COVID shut everything down. Our team was ranked 1st in the province before the COVID shutdown.
  • 2019 Nepean Wildcats (Atom A)
  • 2018 Nepean Wildcats (Novice A)
  • 2017 Kanata Rangers (Novice B)
