My entire life has been filled with memories and moments of hockey. My interest in the sport sparked when my grandparents and parents started taking me to watch the Minnesota Wild play. I went to my first game when I was only a one year old. When I was older and could understand what was happening I was in awe of the fast paced and high intensity game! That is when I decided that I wanted to become a goalie. I found that watching a Minnesota Wild game was thrilling, but playing hockey was even better! I’ve played goalie ever since I joined an official hockey team at the age of 8. There have been obstacles that I’ve had to overcome over the years. My first youth coach said that I would never be a good goalie. His comment pushed me to work as hard as I can to become the best I can be. Another challenge I had was an ankle injury that occurred at the very beginning of the U14 season. I needed to have surgery, but my doctor gave me permission to play my season per my request. I pushed through the pain to be there for my team and prove to myself that I can achieve anything I put my mind to. Once the season was over I had surgery on my ankle and worked diligently through physical therapy and strength exercises to get back to 100%. This sport has taught me a lot about myself. I have learned that once I start something I become very dedicated to it and I will put in 100% of my efforts. Even when things are challenging I’ve learned to push through the physically and mentally hard moments and learn from my mistakes. I’ve also learned that working with a team makes me stronger, it pushes me to better myself as a teammate and player. For both my high school and college goals I want to succeed in my classes, and not just get by. Being able to successfully manage my time between school, hockey, and friendships is going to help me succeed in both high school and college. Hockey has been a major influence in my life. It has given me my best friendships, experiences, and teaching moments. This sport has helped me to become a better person, to learn more about myself, and what it feels like to be dedicated to something that is so important to me. My family has influenced who I am by teaching me the rights and wrongs in the world and what you can do to improve yourself.
