Hello, my name is Emma Heide. I am seventeen years old and I am a senior at Bradford High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin. I currently play for the Glenview Stars u19 team, wearing number 11. In the next five years, I plan to graduate with a Bachelor's degree in education while playing hockey at the collegiate level. Hockey has been a huge part of my life since I was nine years old, and my goal is to play as long as possible.
Along with sports, I take academics seriously. I push myself out of my comfort zone and have taken all Honors and AP classes throughout high school. Taking advanced classes has taught me to manage my time wisely and to challenge myself. Although balancing hockey, lacrosse, and school can be difficult, I enjoy the challenge and feel it is important to face these obstacles to further my success.
Since I was little, I have had a competitive edge. My family became involved in hockey when I was nine years old. Watching my brothers fall in love with the game inspired me to start playing. Ever since I started “learn to play”, I have overcome many obstacles in my hockey career. I have had coaches that did not believe I could hold my own against my male counterparts, teammates that looked down on me because I am a girl, and limited resources being invested into my old girls’ hockey program. These struggles have made me into the resilient and determined player that I am today. Some of my best qualities are my speed, aggressiveness, and overall knowledge of the game. I am a coachable player and I love receiving constructive criticism from my coaches and teammates so I can be the best player possible.
While playing hockey for the past seven years, I have become a versatile player. I play both center and wing. I even have experience playing off-wing (left wing). I consider myself to be a playmaker. When I have control of the puck, I look to move the puck to open ice to create a scoring opportunity. I am a two way player and I backcheck hard to help my defense and goalies get the puck on our sticks and back in our offensive zone. I view every practice and game as an opportunity to learn and advance my skill. I believe that a good player is defined by their determination, dedication, and work ethic. I am focused and eager to earn a spot on a college roster.
