I started playing hockey when I was eight and my dad, younger brother, and I would spend countless hours at the outdoor rink learning how to skate. I loved the way the ice smelled and wanted to always be there. I tried goalie my very first year and there was no turning back. It was fascinating, different, and a challenge. As soon as I started playing it I knew that it was what I wanted to do. My brother and I are constantly competing with each other. I think this has developed my competitive level as well as my parents always pushing me to get better.
I've learned so many lessons while playing hockey. I learned that even when things look rough the best thing to do is to keep pushing, and with hard work and perseverance you can achieve your goals. I learned many things about myself, I learned that I like to be challenged, and can bounce back quickly if something goes wrong. A trait that I have is that I'm not thin skinned and I can handle discipline and criticism from a coach. My glove is one of my strongest assets and my agility and strength helps me move quickly in the net.
Academically I strive to be a straight A student, and in college I have the same goal. Even though classes will get harder I want to work hard to maintain good grades. I'm hoping to find a college where I can contribute to the team, be pushed as a player, and help the program win.
