I had only been playing fall ball lacrosse for a few months when I played in my first-ever lacrosse game. I was sitting on the sideline watching my brother play in a travel team tournament when the goalie went down sick. Next thing I knew, my brother was running onto the sideline telling me they needed me to get geared up. I remember that moment vividly because I was so intimidated by the 6-foot tall boys all around me watching me jump into gear. I was officially the first girl to play for South Bay Advnc. From that moment on, I knew lacrosse would be something I could not live without.
Through playing lacrosse, I have learned the importance of teamwork. If you want to win the game, each player must put in equal effort. I also learned how to use adrenaline to my advantage. I learned that when I get frustrated with myself , I can use that frustration as motivation to make myself better instead of tearing myself down. When I hurt my knee freshman year and was put back down on JV, I was very upset in the beginning, but it taught me that I need to work harder and overcome any obstacles that may stand in my way. Even though I was injured that year, I never missed a practice or a game. I know the importance of commitment to a team.
