Personal Statement

I have been playing lacrosse since the third grade and have enjoyed every minute of it. Ever since I started, I have learned from my teammates, my own mistakes, and from the coaches that have helped me to where I am now. I have played for two high schools now, which has taught me a lot about myself both on and off the field. Having moved in the middle of my sophomore year and coming off of my freshmen year on the varsity team at Newton South, I was anxious about my skill and placement on Andover’s lacrosse team, due to the high completive bracket. Being new and having no one know my skill level resulted in me being placed on the JV team. This wasn’t the end of the world for me, but also wasn’t enough. I looked at this as an opportunity to make my mark to be known, which paid off. Towards the end of the season and going into the tournament, I was placed on the varsity team and received my letter.

My work ethic extended from the field to the classroom. Being a new student, made it challenging to be comfortable and get into a rhythm with a different schedule and surrounded by different people, but lacrosse helped me through it. It gave me an opportunity to create a good group of friends that I could depend on, which balanced me. It pushed me complete all my work before my practices and games. My GPA did not suffer, but in fact went up from the move. I also got more involved in my school by joining clubs and got involved in different sports. I joined the American Red Cross Club and started a club with my friend called Body Positive. I had played soccer at Newton South and many years prior, but wanted to try something new. I started running Cross Country and Track, which helps me get into shape for lacrosse.

In lacrosse I am able to use both hands. I will hustle to any ball near me and will always help my teammates. I am very vocal on and off the field. I am coachable and am always ready for feedback. I am always looking for ways to better advance my skills.

My goals for college are to find a school that fits me academically, but will also give me the opportunity to continue my career in lacrosse. I am looking for a school that will provide the best career path for me after my years there are done.
