My goal is to be the ultimate student-athlete. I have been taking all honors/AP and challenging classes. I am a three season multi-sport athlete, lucky enough to be a starter on our lacrosse team for our first ever undefeated regular season when I was a freshman. During the summer before high school, the varsity lacrosse coach invited me to train privately and I attended pick-up lacrosse games with high school and college players to sharpen my skills. I was offered the challenge and accepted, never settling for anything less than my best and appreciating the opportunity. I also stepped up to the challenge of playing varsity goal-keeper for soccer, a position that I had never really played but found that I loved and earned All-State honors. My winters were also a time for new sports experiences skiing with the high school Nordic team. I had only cross-country skied once before but in my second season, I ranked high enough to attend the NH Meet of Champions and then represent NH at the NENSA J2 (U16) Championships in VT and return the next year to represent NH at the elite Eastern States Championships. If I can go farther and work harder, I do it.
That is how I picked up lacrosse - I had the opportunity to try something new. I love sports and being active, so right before middle school I gave up softball and tried lacrosse. There was definitely a learning curve but I stepped it up. Lacrosse became my escape whenever school or stressors closed in. I could get into the game. It was something that I felt good about. Whether tossing the ball in the yard with my sister or playing at Nationals, it's just a game I love.
As a student-athlete, that escape and natural lift that I get from my sport gives me an edge in the classroom. I am aiming for a career in medicine. My dream job would be working at the medical clinic at the base camp on Mt. Everest. I attended a lecture given by one of the founders of that clinic while attending a wilderness medicine conference and I knew that was the kind of challenge I would love. If I can blend academics and sports in my college life and career, I'll be happiest. I am searching for a college that offers me challenge and opportunity in my courses and the chance to explore something new.
