I have played competitive sports my whole life while maintaining a strong academic record and look to continue playing sports in college. My first competitive sport was ice hockey and since 7th grade I have played goalie for lacrosse. Playing ice hockey for the only girls team in Long Island pushed me to develop strong time management skills as we traveled every weekend to other states for games and spent 6+ hours a week at practices all while maintaining a strong academic record. My first year of lacrosse I was asked to play goalie because the coach knew my brother played lacrosse and quite frankly no one else wanted to be the goalie. I accepted the challenge and quickly grew to love lacrosse.
Throughout my ice hockey and lacrosse experiences coaches, team mates and other parents have always commented on my leadership both on and off the ice/field. I have been selected by peers several times to be captain and coaches have often relied on me to step in when there are problems in the locker room.
While ice hockey will always have a special place in my heart, I have come to enjoy lacrosse more and more each season. I have been able to leverage the leadership, camaraderie and time management skills I gained from hockey to become a critical contributor to my high school lacrosse team.
