My name is Cameron Vervack, and I'm in the 2026 class attending Lightridge High School in Aldie, Virginia. I am the starting goalie for my high school varsity lacrosse team (2024 district champions, 2024 region runner-ups, and 2024 state runner-ups) and earned multiple awards on the team! For example, during the 2023 season, my freshman year, I maintained a save average of ~77%. During the 2024 season, I broke the school record for most season saves. Also, I was honored for having a GPA of above 4.0!
I am the goalie for my club team, Yellow Jackets Mid-Atlantic 2026 Ophof. Currently, we are ranked #120 overall!
I was selected to compete in the USA School Girls Tournament 2024. I also earned second-team all-region and second-team all-district! I want to play at the collegiate level and am ready to work hard to get there! My competitiveness motivates me to work every day to be the best player on and off the field.
Before lacrosse, I was involved in Tae Kwon Do, eventually earning the rank of black belt. It helped me develop a more disciplined mindset, which has proved very helpful in lacrosse. It allows me to focus on what is happening and what I'm trying to accomplish. It also allows me to focus on the small things, like my stance/posture.
I am passionate about being a goalie because it requires a tough mentality. You must be able to strategize, communicate, and much more simultaneously. I believe that I am a strong leader and effective communicator, and I earned the respect of my coaches and peers by consistently guiding the defense and celebrating the success of our efforts. Lacrosse is a mental game and I have developed a healthy sense of self. I can recover quickly when a goal is scored, and I can use that as a learning opportunity.
One important aspect of my growing mindset as an athlete was realizing that there will always be someone better than me, someone more athletic than me, someone faster than me. But the more extensive part of it was, and still is, working to ensure that I will always be working harder, I will always have more drive, and I will always have more motivation. I always put in the most effort, whether in a practice or a game.
My long-term goal is to attend a school with a strong Biology/Medical/Engineering program and be the goalie on their lacrosse team. I hope to continue to learn and grow as a player and a student.
