I have not been rowing for very long--just a few months. But in that time, I can already determine that it is something I will continue to pursue. It is challenging, but I am not afraid to be challenged. When I was 10 years old, I became a certified SCUBA diver surrounded by people much older than me. And I am a 1st kyu brown belt in Shotokan karate which I have participated in since I was in kindergarten. It's been slow and steady and I am committed to earning my black belt. I've been playing team sports for many years. Basketball and volleyball are the two I continue to play. I have the discipline to focus and train whether it's for an individual or a team goal. I understand that objectives have to be met to reach goals. I'm always open to hearing feedback from my coaches about ways I can improve my performance.
Aside from sweating a lot, I do enjoy spending time with family and friends and having fun. I work hard in school and currently have a 4.12 weighted GPA. I believe I am a well-rounded individual and understand the importance of hard work, dedication, as well as having some fun along the way in order to have balance in my life.
I can't wait to take my skills onto the water. I am looking forward to learning the new skills in rowing and the physical and mental challenges they bring. I know I won't wake up one day and be a collegiate rower. It takes planning, effort, and training as well as support from family and coaches. But I do know that I will plan my row and row my plan.
