Typical for sisters that are six years apart, I watched as she succeeded both academically and in the pool. It seemed she would glide to the top with ease. For me, it's always been a difficult climb, I put the time in for academic achievement. Swimming though, came naturally just as it did for my sister. When she went off to college, swimming D1, I decided it was time to step out of her shadow and find my thing. The thing I could do that would constantly challenge me to be the best that I could be. It was rowing. Unlike swimming I couldn't just go through the motions every day and get better. I took the mental strength and competitiveness I have from swimming and being the shadow of my sister and applied it to rowing, giving me a little edge over my competitors. I fell in love with the sport. I love the blood, sweat, tears and blisters. I am always challenged, there is always another step I can take and knowing this, sets me apart from other athletes. I love proving to myself that I can!
