As an upcoming college student athlete, my goals and aspirations for my college experience include participating in a highly competitive women’s crew team while also enjoying my preferred major of neuroscience and keeping up with my academics. I hope to attend a college that is a good fit for my personality and that holds academics to the same standard as athletics.
I would be a good candidate for a college crew team because I am a team player and work very well with others. I am very coachable, because I learn quickly, and am very open to learning. I have lots of potential for growth, development, and high achievement in the sport. I am highly motivated and hard-working, rarely missing practices and team events.
I might stand out from other recruits because even though I am not an incredible, all-star athlete, my resiliency and ability to adapt and overcome setbacks is what sets me apart. Being a four-sport athlete nearly my whole life, I am used to hard work and dedicating myself to my sports. In addition to crew, I also ski and am on the ski race team at my school, am a full pointe ballet dancer, along with other types of competitive dance, and am also an equestrian. With all of this I have been able to maintain my good grades as well as a good GPA in a full IB Diploma Program.
Last year following a bad ski accident, I suffered a torn ACL, torn meniscus, broken fibula bone, and sprained MCL. As frustrating as the nine-month long recovery was, it actually provided me with more opportunities to try things I never would have before, like taking piano classes and becoming a part of my school’s acappella choir. After months of intense physical therapy, I was able to make a perfect recovery and conquer the summit of Mount Washington shortly after.
Outside of school and athletics, I enjoy active participation in community service, such as volunteering at school events and through my local parish. During the summer, I do various volunteer programs such as working vacation bible camp, a STEM internship program, and working at local summer camps for kids. I am also an active member of my church youth group. In my (albeit few) moments of free time, I enjoy practicing mindfulness meditation, hiking the White Mountains of New Hampshire, listening to music, landscaping, and spending time with friends and family.
