Hi I'm Hannah, I am 16 years old and in grade 11. I started rowing about 3 1/2 years ago when I was looking to transition out of competitive swimming and I fell in love with the sport of rowing. I did recreational rowing while I was still swimming for around a year and a half then I decided I wanted to be a competitive rower in grade 9. I rowed at this particular club in the junior program for a little over a year until I realized I was not being fully supported as an athlete and knew I needed better coaching to accomplish more with rowing. At the beginning of this year --2020-- I switched to South Niagara Rowing Club (SNRC) and I have improved a lot in the time that I have rowed here. Some of my big improvements include; dropping over 30sec off my 2k and over 5min off my 6k. I know I will continue to grow as an athlete at this club in the next year and improve even more.
I am a very dedicated and hardworking person; this is evident through my passion and drive to become a better athlete, through my academics, and my other extra-curriculars. This summer my parents drove me to practice at my club --which is over an hour away from where I live--about 5-6 days a week where I trained hard to improve my rowing skills coming from a weaker place in my rowing development. When it comes to academics, I am a very good student and am always willing to learn. I have a 96% average as of right now and I hope to keep this average up by the end of grade 11 and into grade 12. I have received many subject awards for top grades in my classes from school as well.
In addition to rowing and school, I also do music. My main instrument is the clarinet, but I have also played the piano since I was four. Through music, I have been fortunate enough to receive many regional, provincial, and even national awards-- one of which being the gold medal from the Royal Conservatory of Music --. I have also successfully auditioned for youth orchestras where I have been the principal clarinetist. I study music with both of my parents who are professional musicians but I have also been fortunate enough to study with some of the top artists/teachers in the world.
