I started rowing four years ago after spending my entire childhood involved in a wide variety of sports. But in rowing, all my athletic drive, discipline, talents, and leadership skills have come together with much success. I found rowing to be unique because its a team sport that provides the opportunity to be a team player, but creates a competitive space to push my personal goals.
Rowing gives me the duality I was looking for in other teams sports. I have been able to closely work with my team and encourage everyone around me, however I also thrive in a competitive, self driven atmosphere. Rowing allows me to rely more on myself, giving me the opportunity to earn my way into every top boat.
Rowing has challenged me not only physically but mentally, and has given me the opportunity to grow on and off the water. I've seen this affect my ability to overcome hard situations or tasks, and it has greatly changed the way I use my mindset to approach difficult things. When I first started rowing in 8th grade I was not getting good grades and wasn't taking my academic life seriously. Rowing brought me to the place where I could approach something scary head on. I am now a straight A student and have been for the past two years. Rowing has given me the gift of a much needed perspective change, and I now see opportunity in the face of hardship.
I am very coachable and hardworking as well as a team motivator. Any chance I get to improve or use helpful feedback I take. I am constantly working with my coaches to develop skills that add value to my boats and the success of our club. My goal is to find a college that will match my academic pursuits in Health Sciences while being pushed as an athlete at the highest competitive level possible.
