Personal Statement

My name is Audrey Lynn Clarke and I have loved sports since I was a young child.  My first passion was soccer and now it is rowing.  I have been playing soccer for nine years and I am currently coaching for the Bainbridge Island Soccer Club at the U12 and U16 levels. In high school, I fell into the wonderful sport of rowing after a friend recommended I try out.  I have been rowing for Bainbridge Island High School, and Bainbridge Island Rowing Club going on three years now.  All my years in sports have taught me valuable lessons such as: how to work hard to be the best athlete I can be; how to be a part of a team; and to never give up on me or my team’s goals. These lessons translate directly into my goals of rowing for a college team.

My athletic goal is to obtain a scholarship so I can row at the highest college level.  I would like to represent my college as a dedicated rower and assist in winning championships for the school.  I realize rowing is a grueling sport and I am willing to commit 100% to rowing in any kind of weather and to work out several hours a day/week to be the strongest/best rower I can be for my college crew team.  I am extremely competitive and I love to work out every day.  My coaches over the years have all stated that I am the hardest worker on the team with a positive attitude, and that I am easy to coach.

My academic goals for college are to obtain a graduate degree in the Sports Medicine field.  I am in my second year of taking Sport Medicine classes in high school and I’ve gotten excellent grades in those courses.  After college, I would like to work with a professional athletic team and to coach.  I have volunteered for the Boys and Girls Club for three years and I do volunteer coaching with the Bainbridge Island Soccer Club.   I really enjoy working with kids and teaching them life skills such as teamwork, leadership, staying fit, and respecting others, etc.

I know that if I want to succeed in college, rowing and life I will need to make sacrifices to achieve my goals.  I am willing to push myself in rowing practice and college, including extra hours of studying and rowing, or wherever else is needed to succeed.  I have been a student-athlete for years and gone to school at the same time.  So I know how to balance sports and academics.  I cannot accomplish my athletic, academic and life goals on my own.   As a high school athlete, I have learned that teamwork, support (via coaches, teachers, parents, etc.), determination, and hard work are the keys to my success in rowing, coaching and academics.  These life lessons have given me the knowledge I need to succeed in whatever I choose to accomplish in my life.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
