Personal Statement

Although I have no recollection other than the stories told by my parents and sisters, my first important soccer game I attended was the USA Women’s World Cup against China for the win when I was nine months old.  Our seats were on the penalty line where my family witnessed one of the greatest and memorable moments in women’s soccer; Brandy Chastain scoring the winning goal.  My family’s love for the game was infused in me from a very early age.  But, I have truly loved the game of soccer since five years old, and have spent much of my childhood and adolescence emulating my heroes, dreaming of one day leading my own team to an infamous win.  I dove into club and high school soccer with a strong work ethic and desire that led to a winning seasons my freshman and sophomore years.

People see goals; what they don’t see are my rigorous hours of preparation, practicing drills, running sprints and staying in peak physical condition to produce that goal.  I also bring forth a solid grasp of the game which translates into sound decisions in the heat of the game.  My soccer experiences taught me to relish hard work and to trust my skills.  I am committed to applying myself fully and enthusiastically in every way possible to ensure this.

I know that my ability to remain disciplined amidst highly challenging and hectic circumstances will allow me to thrive in the demanding college environment.  And through soccer, I learned important lessons regarding hard work, discipline, and critical thinking that I will directly apply to my career as a Psychologist.

  • 2013 SLOSC Storm (Socal Development League)
  • The SLO Storm G98 team were undefeated Champions of the 2013 CCSL Fall Season. San Luis Obispo Soccer Club G98 STORM drove to Bakersfield on Sunday morning to play their two last league games. After winning their first game 6-0, the girls went into their last and final game only needing a tie against the Orcutt Crusaders to guarantee first place in Fall League. Despite only needing a tie, the girls put on a fantastic show of attractive soccer that culminated with a 5-1 win. The win added to an already impressive undefeated record in League of 9 wins, 1 tie, and 0 losses, best goal differential in league of +50 and more shutouts than any other team in league (8 total). This marked the second CCSL title achieved by the team and it’s coaching staff, after winning Spring League earlier this year.
  • 2012 Santa Barbara Soccer Club (Socal Development League)
  • Santa Barbara SC GU14 white established themselves as one of the top 4 teams in Southern California during their Cal South National Cup run. With a roster of only 12 players the girls defied all the odds progressing through the group Stage, and then one game at a time knocked some very good competition in the knock out stages. Along the way GU15 White defeated the #2 seed, Surf, 2-1 in the round 16 and went on to beat a team they had not been able to beat all season, Del Mar Sharks, 1-0 in the round of 8. It was a fairy tale story cut short, but the achievement is seriously impressive all the same. The run really boosted the confidence of the girls and helped them realize just how good they could be. They are eager to get back next season and prove that they can go all the way next time. No girls team from Santa Barbara has ever made it this far in National Cup and Santa Barbara SC is very proud of these girls for representing and distinguishing Santa Barbara and themselves at the highest level of the game. This group also won the Surf Thanksgiving tournament in San Diego earlier in the year and so their National Cup run was a great ending to a great season.
