Talissa Nam '21 Recruiting Profile

    While in the classroom I could never figure out if I was a math and science type of gal or a humanities enthusiast, soccer the one thing where I actually knew exactly which box I belonged in: defense. For all of my six years of club soccer, I specifically played outside defense, only occasionally dabbling in center defense when my teammates were injured or sick. I became known for stopping breakaways and making overlapping runs that led to crosses into the box. But, everything changed when I got to Cate.  On the field, the one place where I thought I knew what type of person I was, I was suddenly no longer a defender. Now, I consistently play outside midfield and forward, but also occasionally play center midfield as well. Basically, every other position than the one I was comfortable with. In fact, to this day, I have never played a minute of defense for the Cate soccer team. 
    Even though this change was a little shocking to me at first, I adapted quickly and have improved a lot since my first game with Cate. The attacking positions have forced me to further develop my ball skills, a part of my game my club coaches had said was my biggest weakness. It has made my counter attacks out of the back more dangerous and effective. In the classroom, I love all my classes, well except language,  and hope to continue to explore what I want to do.  As a well-rounded student, athlete, and artist, I aspire to have the opportunity to continue to play the sport I love.
