Dylan Holmes '21 Recruiting Profile

When I look at the questions for the personal statement about academics, athletics, etc. I wonder to myself why such questions are asked. A coach can click on the links on this page and find all my stats on my recruiting page. So then I try and think about what it is that I could tell you that sets me apart from all other athletes.  All I know is how I really feel about my sport and what I hope that my future holds. 

When the state of California shut down at the beginning of the pandemic I went from a jam packed schedule to nothing.  No sports, no activities, no school, no friends, nothing! Playing soccer was my life, is my life. The field is my "happy place", when I am there the outside world disappears, it is just me my team and the game.  So when it all stopped it was devastating.  But I soon realized that this was going to be a true test of my commitment to the game. I had to create a new normal for training, mentally and physically, that would get me to the next level. It would challenge me in every way, but what I got out of it was so much more than I ever thought. 

So what makes me different from others and what makes me the perfect fit for your team is that despite the challenges that were laid in front of me, in front of us all, I never gave up.  I realized that I have always had the desire, commitment, and confidence to excel because, "I am strong. I am bold. I am obsessed. I am passionate. I am a fighter. I am smart. I am dedicated. I am relentless. I am brave. I am tough. I am powerful. I AM A SOCCER PLAYER!"
