Hello! My name is Sofia Rodriguez, I am 17 years old and I will be starting my senior year at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School in Los Angeles, CA. I started playing soccer at 5 years old, and began club at 7. I first played for a local club team called Ventura United for 2 years before moving to Palos Verdes. I then played 5 years for LA Galaxy, working my way up to the Academy level where I played for the last two years, before the girls team was disbanded during Covid. I played for the Beach FC GA team for a year before switching to the 05 SC Blues ECNL team. I am currently playing for the LA Breakers ECNL team. I have played as a forward for the first 5 years of my soccer career before being taught how to play wing back. My coach at the time believed I could play the position well and that my speed and attacking mentality could help bring the team up on the field. I have played this position since, while occasionally playing forward as well. In addition, I’ve played as an attacking midfielder while guesting for Fram with a coach who taught me during my early years on LA Galaxy. My soccer skills and fitness have improved over the years, and I hope they will continue to do so as my career progresses. I look forward to this upcoming season and its challenges and victories.
Before moving to Palos Verdes, I competitively ran track and field. During middle school I competed in a few races here and there, as well as cross country meets. But soccer has always been the most important and enjoyable sport for me. During freshman year, I did not play soccer for my school, because the Developmental Academy League did not permit it. But during freshman year I played striker for my Junior Varsity team and really enjoyed the football experience. I look forward to continuing to play for my school these next two years.
Although I am still undecided in my future major/s and profession, I have recently been interested in studying architecture. I plan to continue my search for a college that will fit my interests academically and socially. I am currently taking factors such as location, finances, and athletic division into consideration as I explore my options for future education.
