My name is Destiny Zapata and I’m a Junior at Smyrna High School, in Smyrna DE. I attended my cousin’s soccer game at the age of eight and have been in love with the sport ever since. I started as a rec player before moving on to a travel team. I thought I was a good player but realized quickly I had a lot yet still to learn. Knowing this, I was willing to rise to the challenge. Another obstacle I’ve had to overcome is not just using my dominant left foot, but also my right foot to be a well-rounded player. Being a well-rounded player is something I think is important. Family, school, and sports is something my family has taught me since I can remember. On the field, it’s all about heart, effort, and character. Soccer isn’t the only thing on my mind it’s also academics and my future. Getting straight A’s, succeeding in my Allied Health and science classes are goals for me before graduating. After graduation, my academic goals include gathering all information necessary to achieve my dream of becoming a radiologist and playing the sport I love. I know that I’m a work in progress and there are areas in my soccer career I need to work on, but given the opportunity, I will continue to use my heart, effort, and character to get me to the player I need to be.
