Personal Statement

Hello! I am Julia Koval from Hockessin, Delaware.  I am currently a Senior at the Cab Calloway School of Arts High School in Wilmington, Delaware.  I'm sure you're asking, "What kind of sports program can an arts school have?" Let me explain, as an arts school, our "athletic" funding is used in support of our art studies instead of athletic extra-curriculars.  However, we have a unique reciprocal relationship with our co-occupant the Charter School of Wilmington (CSW).  Cab students are able to participate in CSW sports, and CSW students can partake in art programs such as performance, band, etc.   To add one more wrinkle, there is a third scholastic occupant of our building, the Cab Calloway School of the Arts Middle School.  This is worth mentioning because Cab Calloway 8th graders are able to tryout for the CSW High School sports teams, as such, I was able to try out for the high school soccer team in 8th grade. I was selected for the Varsity team and have been a starter ever since. Clear as mud eh!  :)

In addition to high school soccer, I play with my club team the Delaware FC 01/02s year round, play piano, all while maintaining above a 4.0 GPA.   I work very hard for the positions I earn on the field as well as the grades I make in school.  I'm generally a quick study and very methodical in my approach to learning and execution.  Coaches and teammates frequently comment that I add a very calming presence on the field and a positive attitude. I'm consistent at being able to successfully distribute the ball when  under pressure.  My  team is my family, and I have been EXTREMELY fortunate to have been on a team over the years who celebrates our wins together, pushes each other through our losses, and who supports each other personally, both on and off the field.  I've consistently been a starting player throughout my club career and I often work extra sessions with our trainers to fine tune the areas of my game that need improvement.

In some of my spare time on the weekends I like to translate my love of the game into volunteering through the Top Soccer program and working with kids with special needs.  I'm also a member of the National Honor Society and have competed in scholastic competitions such the Science Olympiad and the Business Professionals of America where we took 2nd place in website design at the national competition held in Orlando, Florida.  I also enjoy just about anything outdoors, cooking, broadway shows, and spending time with friends and family.

Soccer gives back to me and as much as I put into soccer.  I can't imagine soccer not being part of my life.  It's been a great ride so far and I am looking forward to the opportunity of being able to continue to play in college and compete at an even higher level.

I would welcome the opportunity to talk with you more about your program and what I could bring to your team. I’m confident that my passion, dedication, and skills would be a positive addition to your team.

Thank you and looking forward to meeting on the pitch!

Best regards,

Jules

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
