Abbey Ondrus '22 Recruiting Profile

I am a 17 year old high school senior playing for Evolution 04 Girls Vapor MCL and Metea Valley High School in the DuPage Valley Conference (one of the best high school conferences in Illinois).  I prefer to play 11, but can easily fill multiple positions on the field including also 7, 9, 2, 3, or wingback.  I am right footed, but can use both feet equally well, and actually prefer playing on the left side of the field.  I have good speed and endurance, so I often get matched up against the opponent’s best player.  I have worked hard on my footskills so that I don’t always have to depend on my speed to beat defenders.

I am a good student and work hard to get good grades.  I currently have a 3.69 GPA.  I will likely major in Athletic Training or Exercise Science.  I am busy with school and soccer, but am also in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) club at my high school too.  I work part time at Dunkin Donuts.  When my schedule allows it, I am also a certified referee and babysit for a neighbor that has two young children.  I am looking for a school and a program that are a good match for me.  I want great academics and high-level soccer.  I am looking for a soccer program that is competitive, but a coaching staff that can also keep it loose and have fun.  I want to be part of a group with positive, outgoing energy and be in a place where I feel I really belong.  A team is a family to me!

I would be a great fit for your program because I am enthusiastic and have a high work rate in the classroom and on the field.  I love challenging myself and want to learn to be better each day, overcoming obstacles that come my way.  I will represent myself, my team and coaches, the soccer program and university, with the highest standards and respect.  Soccer has taught me about hard work, integrity, leadership, respect, acceptance, dependability, and reliability.

Playing soccer won’t last forever, so I want the last four years of my career to be something special that I can cherish forever!
