Sydney Chumas '24 Recruiting Profile

I am a 2024 center and outside defender at Damascus High School in Maryland. My passion for the game started when I was 10 years old. Due to a diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 2, I lacked the confidence to begin playing an organized sport when I was younger. Watching the USWNT gave me the inspiration and courage to join my first soccer team at age 10. I instantly fell in love with the sport. I started playing on a recreational team in Damascus. For starting as late as I did, I progressed rapidly and moved on to a Maryland Soccer Inc. (MSI) Classic Team. After three years at the MSI Classic level, I advanced to club soccer and began playing for Luciano Emilio's Soccer Club (LESC) Internazionale. With Luciano having played for DC United, his instruction has helped me with my soccer IQ and field awareness. Simultaneously, I played varsity soccer during my first two years of high school. Recently, I moved clubs looking for a challenge; something that always intrigues and excites me. Therefore, I currently play at FCGB Center of Excellence. 

As I look ahead to college, I can't imagine my life without soccer. It's my release, my happy place, and my second family. I am eager to play soccer in college and take my skills to the next level while getting a solid education. I am a highly versatile player, determined, coachable, and consistently display grit on the field. Throughout my soccer career, I have been nominated and selected for captain by both my coaches and fellow teammates. I love pumping up my teammates during practices and games and collaborating with my coaches. 

I have the same determination and grit on the field as I do in the classroom. I've challenged myself to take Honors and AP courses in preparation for college. I have always been a math and science person, always interested in nature and how things work. Therefore, I hope to major in biochemistry with a focus in forensics.
